Rusted weld-lines and the photography of Richard Vander Wende

Richard Vander Wende established the visual style for Disney’s Aladdin and Riven.  I’d bet that these photos (or others like them) would get a lot of attention in a NYC gallery show.





These textures remind me of something I saw from a talented concept artist named Matt Kohr.  He shot textured surfaces from above and then illustrated them in 3D just as an exercise.  (Aspiring concept designers, texture artists, and professors should take note- -this is a great portfolio piece to spice up a stack of predictable still lifes and bland observation studies.)
